Bear necessities:Ballyhoura Bears walking club organises treks every Sunday, particularly in the Aherlow and Ballyhoura areas.

Tomorrow, they will meet at the community café near the church in Bruff at 11am for a walk to Lough Gur. Contact Maurice Lyons on 086-6593085. Walk with wine

In keeping with the spirit of the season, Dungarvan Hillwalking Club will hold its annual Mulled Wine and Mince Pie walk tomorrow. Meet at the Park Hotel, Dungarvan, at 1pm. This will be a moderate walk, but participants are reminded to wear proper boots and bring along suitable gear. There will be two Christmas walks on Sunday, December 27th, graded medium and moderate, followed by refreshments at Tudor House, Dungarvan. Also, there is a walk planned for New Year’s Day when the club will meet at the Park Hotel at 1pm. Details at dungarvanhillwalking.org

Head for Fanad

The North West Mountaineering Club in Donegal has a schedule of walks for Christmas starting tomorrow with a trek from Fanad Head to Rinboy. Next Sunday (Dec 27th), the walk will take place at Aghla Mountain and Scraigs near Fintown. The New Year’s Day walk is up Errigal and possibly McCaught and Beacky.
